The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the UN Convention to Combat
Desertification (UNCCD) and other partners will hold a High-Level Meeting on
National Drought Policy on 11-15 March 2013 in Geneva to focus on drought
preparedness and management policies.

The meeting will bring together world leaders, government decision-makers,
development agencies, and leading scientists and researchers. Government
leaders include His Excellency Issoufou Mahamadou, President of the Republic
of Niger, whose country has been repeatedly hit by devastating droughts, most
recently in 2011-2012.

The 2nd. Training Course on WMO SDS-WAS (satellite and ground observation and modelling of atmospheric dust) has been held in Antalya, Turkey. It has been organized and funded by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), EUMETSAT and the Turkish State Meteorological Service (TSMS) with the collaboration of the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS). It has been coordinated by the Regional Center for Northern Africa, Middle East and Europe of the WMO SDS-WAS programme.

"The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the State Meteorological Agency of Spain (AEMET) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to renew and strengthen a 2007 cooperation agreement.
WMO Secretary-General Michel Jarraud and AEMET President Ricardo Garcia Herrera signed the MoU at a ceremony 14 October.

AEMET promises to continue its financial support to various trust funds administered by WMO with the purpose of supporting the Programme of Cooperation for NMHSs of Ibero-American countries, the International Research Centre on EI Niño (CIIFEN) and the Programme of Cooperation for development of West African NMHSs (AFRIMET)."
